The Flick -- A term used by air traffic controllers to describe a mental model representing the current and future positions of air traffic in a section of airspace. Controllers visualize the paths of multiple aircraft in terms of position, altitude, trajectory and speed. Controllers also refer to this as "having the picture." But the picture moves -- like a movie -- hence the term “the flick.”

Journeymen
Back in the old days -- back when fully checked-out controllers were called FPLs (Full Performance Level controllers), I would occasionally hear someone refer to controllers as “journeymen”. I never gave the nomenclature a second thought.
This morning, while I was checking The Herald-Zeitung to see if they had any news on staffing the Tower properly, I ran across a cute story about “journeymen”.
It’s a sad commentary on the state of our economy that they haven’t been able to find work on their journey between Florida and Texas. I hope somebody in New Braunfels can find them some work. If not, I hope at least a few of our journeymen will buy these journeymen a beer. Mind your manners and just overlook the hats.
