Sandhill Cranes 2023

I'm not sure I'll get back out to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge to see the sandhill cranes this year but it's always a treat.  There are thousands of them.  This was taken from a public bird blind not more than 100 yards from the main visitor's center.  It's well worth your time if you're ever near Decatur, Alabama, on the Tennessee River in the winter.  I understand they head back north sometime in February.

Be forewarned.  A field full of grazing cranes — bobbing up and down -- plays havoc with your autofocus. :)
