Between Cool and Warm

It was cloudy and raining on Monte Sano this morning so here's a sunrise from a better day.

All these years later, I'm still influenced by the writings of Galen Rowell.  (If you don't know of him, Google him.)  This is an extreme example, yet the lesson still applies.  He thought that was the essence of his best photographs — the interaction between cool (blueish) and warm (golden) light.

Having done some photography out West, I think the idea is more notable out there.  In general, the air is so much clearer than here in the East.  100-mile visibility isn't unknown out there but it is here.  A day with 30-mile visibility is a great day in the East.  I haven't seen a day like that yet, here in Huntsville.  Nevertheless, it's a good idea to think about as you're looking from a great scene to photograph.
