There's a good lesson in cropping here for the learners.  I prefer not to crop but rodeo and barrel racing are teaching me that it doesn't really matter what you prefer.  Nobody rides to make a photographer's life easy.  I prefer to take a picture like I want it just because of a situation like this.  I was shooting it "loose", knowing I'd crop it but when I do, there's no way to get that distracting flash of red out of the top left corner.

To keep the top of the rider's head in the picture, and to keep the horse's right hoof and it's shadow in the picture (both of which I consider important)…I'm stuck with that annoying piece of red in the top left.  One day I'll just start retouching everything along with the rest of the fiction photographers.
