Pre-Race Moon
(If you're not a photographer you'll probably want to stop reading now.)
The last barrel race I shot convinced me to upgrade my camera. I had to shoot the whole thing at ISO 10,000 — with the results you'd expect out of 9-year-old technology. I'm not sure how much better 7-year-old technology will be but, so far, it's looking pretty good.
This is my first morning with the "new" Nikon D7500. I had the big lens (200-500mm) out with a D7200 on it and even with the ISO cranked up to 5,000 it was still too dark to "freeze" the Moon. So I pulled out the D7500 cranked it up to 10,000 and started shooting with my normal lens, the 18-300mm. I still had to wait a couple of minutes for the sky to lighten up enough for things to start looking right.
Anyway, this was shot at ISO 10,000. Not exactly ideal for a scenic shot but it was either that or not get it at all. If the next barrel race pictures will look this good, I'll be happy(er). We'll see how it goes. Fair warning, the barrel race is tomorrow.
