Be There for the Storm
Let me say it again, the most dramatic light I come across is usually after a storm. If you want to photograph it, you usually have to be there for the storm.
I grumbled as I put my rain suit on, before I even left the house. That's how sure I was it would keep raining. I hate wearing a rain suit. It stopped raining, about 5 minutes before sunrise. But not soon enough for the Sun to break out.
After walking all the way up the mountain — in the fog — the Sun finally broke out when I was headed back down. You can't get lucky if you don't show up.
