Bucket List Buddy

I'm taking a second look at all my pictures from my visit to the United Kingdom.  This was from October 10, 2024 on the edge of the town of Brechin, Scotland.  My eternal thanks to my buddy for getting me out there.  The Northern Lights were on the bucket list for both of us.  The fact that it was a shared experience made it that much better.

When people ask me about it, I tell them my favorite part was when the red part looked like a misty waterfall.  This picture is from that period.  I'm pointing the camera (on a tripod) nearly vertical.  So the top of the frame is nearly straight overhead and the bottom of the frame is looking east.  Yes, east.  That was the strange part of the evening.  You could tell something was going on to the north (with the naked eye) but the red part — and the intense green part — was in the east.  Which was fortunate because that is where the least amount of light pollution was.

We watched it for the better part of an hour as it ebbed and flowed — changing shape continuously.  If you ever get the chance to see it, jump at it.

This picture is *not* retouched or enhanced in any way.  It's a JPEG — straight out of the camera.
