You Just Can't Beat Luck
It was clear and a million this morning. And the only thing duller than an overcast sunrise is a completely clear one. So I'm wondering around in the cold (about 27ºF/-3ºC) looking for something to shoot. I see this hole in a busted up tree, set up on it and a chipmunk sticks his head out. I couldn't believe it.
I cranked up the ISO to 4,000 and started shooting. He just sat there — frozen. Anyway, I got the ISO down to 1,000 for a few shots before he ducked back down.
I went back to check: I took the first shot at ISO 100, F8 at 2.5 seconds. And I could have used it. He didn't move a muscle. You just can't beat luck.
