Sandhill Cranes in Flight

You can get all the chances to get a sharp picture of these that a photographer could want.  There are thousand of these cranes at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge near Decatur, Alabama.

It's only 45 minutes away.  I'll have to make another trip out there before summer.  Mixed in with these cranes, you can see a large percentage of the surviving Whooping Cranes.  There are only around 1,000 Whooping Cranes at the moment.  That's a recovery from less than 50 in the 1940s.

But after searching through all the Wheeler NWR pictures on Flicker yesterday, I think I'll skip summer there.  Way too many snake pictures for my comfort.  And then there are the gators.
