Pike County Forecast -- Feb. 20, 2020
Roger Stone will be sentenced to 5 years in prison today...oh, wait, wrong forecast.
Rain, Rain, Go Away...
It's barely sprinkling right now (yes, I stepped outside) but the rain is here and it will be here a good, long while. It's colder at The Farm than my phone said -- 44ºF. It was calm when I was outside 10 minutes ago. The auto sensor at Bledsoe says we just had a wind gust of 11 mph. That would make a big difference in the cold factor. Speaking of which...
Rain. All day. While we're only supposed to get 1-2", there's no place for it to go. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for for the whole day. Wind from the NE at 10, gusts to 20 mph. The temperature will fall. All day.
Here's where it gets interesting. As I was looking at my phone ap this morning, I was calculating a decrease in temperature of 1 degree per hour until we got to 40º at 4 PM. (The ap gives you a forecast for every 2 hours.) But that was from a high of 50º. Now I'm starting from a high of 44ºF. (See above) If it's still going to fall 10 degrees, we're getting awfully close to snow.
Straight from the weatherman's mouth:
"While temperatures remain above freezing areawide at this hour, temperature profiles will become supportive of wintry precipitation, primarily in the higher elevations of the north Georgia mountains from midday and into the afternoon hours."
You might want to pay attention today.
