I Love Maps

I love maps.  And it's been awhile since I've posted about the maps showing human progress (or the lack thereof).  I'm not in the mood to work hard or think deep so I won't.  Enjoy the maps.  (And donate to Wikipedia.)

Notice a problem with the United States?

Why isn't the United States blacker?

(GINI index)

I guess because we're too red.

Oh!  I just remembered.  I read this, just this morning.  I loved it.

_______________

Wisdom cries out in the street;
in the squares she raises her voice.
At the busiest corner she cries out;
at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:

“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
 and fools hate knowledge?

Give heed to my reproof;
I will pour out my thoughts to you;
 I will make my words known to you.
Because I have called and you refused,
 have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,
and because you have ignored all my counsel
 and would have none of my reproof,
I also will laugh at your calamity;
 I will mock when panic strikes you,
when panic strikes you like a storm,
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.

Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
they will seek me diligently, but will not find me. Because they hated knowledge
 and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
would have none of my counsel,
 and despised all my reproof,
therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way
 and be sated with their own devices.
For waywardness kills the simple,
and the complacency of fools destroys them;
but those who listen to me will be secure
 and will live at ease, without dread of disaster.”

King Solomon -- 970 to 931 BCE

____________

Okay, it's better known as  Proverbs 1:20-33.

I could have told you that up front but I wanted to see if you could soak up the wisdom of it before you thought of it as "religious".  (I bet there is a lot of wisdom to be found in other religions too. Just sayin'.)

You can even find wisdom on Wikipedia.  If you'll read the right stuff.

"Wisdom is praised for her role in creation
; God acquired her before all else, and through her, He gave order to chaos. Since humans have life and prosperity by conforming to the order of creation, seeking wisdom is the essence and goal of life."

You could spend all night listening to the lie (aka the distraction) of Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.  Or you could cruise over to Wikipedia and actually soak up some knowledge.  Even, maybe, some wisdom.

P.S.  I listen to music while I'm formatting all this.  Jimmy Buffet just reminded me:  "There's no dumb-ass vaccine".
