Big Surprise Sky

As I told folks in my morning weather report, I was surprised to see a glow on the eastern horizon.  I'd done my normal check of the weather -- satellite loop and all -- and I wasn't expecting much of a sunrise at all.  To see a nice glow an hour before sunrise (I shoot a 30 second exposure at F8 with an ISO of 400 to check) is usually a good sign.  And so it was.

Still, it was a big surprise when the sky lit up like this — about 35 minutes before sunrise.  Even better, this is a section of sky well north of where the Sun rises, so I didn't have to work around all the trees I was complaining about yesterday.  The folks that showed up just before sunrise never got to see it.  By that time, the clouds had reached the eastern horizon and shut out the Sun.
