Pike County Forecast -- Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Good morning.  It's 60ºF out at the Farm with a relative humidity of 99.8% and what little wind there is, is from the North.  It's one of those days where I have to look at all my weather sources before I can begin to understand the forecast.  No, that isn't a good sign.

Oh well. Let's start with ATL.

You can see that it's a full 10 degrees warmer up at the airport.  That keeps the fog down and the visibility up.  The clouds ought to make for better sunrise pictures.  But when you get down to Hampton, you're back back in confusing territory.

(Yes, that is different).  A drop of 9 degrees and we're talking Fog/Mist.  But you can see the icon says Mostly Sunny.  When in doubt, go to the forecast discussion. (Pay attention. You might have to do this for yourself one day. Scroll down the page and look for it.)

"Main concern in the short term period is coverage and intensity of convection this afternoon and evening over north GA. gobbledy gook, blah, blah, blah over N GA, environment favorable for discrete cells including supercells.  More gobbledy gook, blah, blah, to remain over far north GA thru the event, blah, blah,...

Convection will slide SE and decrease in coverage as front sags south in the evening weakening after 9 PM as favorable ingredients diminish."

There might be some bad thunderstorms over the North Georgia mountains. Maybe even a tornado.  But, by the time it gets to us down here in Pike (this evening), it won't be so bad.

That gets us to the forecast that finally makes sense.

"Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. West wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph."

Now go enjoy your day and we'll worry about the night when the Sun goes down.
