Don't Know Where
When you don't know where to start, the beginning is usually the right place. This was 51 minutes before sunrise. This is when I put the camera on a tripod, set the exposure for 30 seconds and let the scene bracket itself — the exposure gradually increasing as the Sun slowly lights up the sky more and more. I hadn't even put the graduated neutral-density filter on yet.
When you get this kind of color, this early, it's almost a lock that it will be a great sunrise. It was.
