March 25th in TrumpWorld

In case you haven't read the previous 2 blog posts, this is a quick (as I can make it) tour through TrumpWorld on March 25th -- for Trump's time as President.  From January 2017 through January 2021 and then beyond.

"Since Inauguration Day, Mr. Trump has fired his national security adviser for lying, watched as courts twice blocked his travel bans on some majority-Muslim countries and fumed as the F.B.I. announced that it was investigating his associates for any ties to Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign.

On his watch, the military conducted a botched raid in Yemen — which he approved over dinner days into his presidency — and the United States military is investigating reports that perhaps as many as 200 civilians have been killed in recent airstrikes in Mosul, Iraq. Mexico’s president angrily canceled a White House visit amid a feud over Mr. Trump’s plan for a border wall. The president and his staff have uttered a long list of falsehoods, including an unfounded charge that President Barack Obama tapped his phones, that have entangled them in days of controversy.

Mr. Trump’s approval ratings — never high to begin with — have sagged to the high 30s, the lowest ever recorded at this point in a presidency."

Trump’s Biggest Obstacle to Policy Goals? His Own Missteps

What else is there to say?  The only break I'll give him is that this was the 3rd story in the New York Times' archive.  The 1st one was the 200 Iraqi civilians killed in an airstrike -- mentioned in this story.

"By now, the public knows both too much about Ms. Clifford, who goes by Stormy Daniels, and almost nothing at all.

She is the actress in pornographic films who is suing a sitting president, with whom she said she had a consensual affair, in order to be released from a nondisclosure agreement she reached with his lawyer just before the 2016 election. Over the past two months, she has guided the story of her alleged relationship with President Trump — and the $130,000 she was paid to keep silent — into a full-fledged scandal."

Stormy Daniels, Porn Star Suing Trump, Is Known for Her Ambition: ‘She’s the Boss’

How this didn't kill his candidacy, I'll never know.  Oh, wait, yes I do know.  No, seriously, just wait. We'll get to it, I'm sure.

This was the 3rd story in my archives search too.  I could have gone with the 1st story but trying to explain how the Parkland shootings went from a protest in "390 of the country’s 435 congressional districts" to....what did Trump do about guns?  It's just too depressing.

Meanwhile, we've had time for Stormy Daniels to make a movie about her...whatever with Trump but we haven't had time to finish Trump's trial about covering it up.

"The investigation led by Robert S. Mueller III found no evidence that President Trump or any of his aides coordinated with the Russian government’s 2016 election interference."

Say what???  Oh, wait. That was supposed to be a comma, not a period.  I left out this part.

"...according to a summary of the special counsel’s key findings made public on Sunday by Attorney General William P. Barr."

Mueller Finds No Trump-Russia Conspiracy, but Stops Short of Exonerating President on Obstruction

Think I'm being disingenuous?  You should read the Mueller Report.  I have.  Attorney General Barr wasn't being disingenuous. He was lying -- in that legal way that lawyers lie.  He was deliberately misleading the American Public.  I'd tell you to go read James Fallows' piece about this -- I'm telling you, go read it -- but I bet most of you don't have a subscription despite me telling you it was worth the price for years and years.

March 25, 2020

“You can’t just come in and say let’s close up the United States of America,” the president said, insisting again that he did not view the coronavirus as any more dangerous than the flu."

Funny, this came up in a conversation I had just a day or two ago.  As I said, I have a sticky note on my desktop for this.

Way down in the article, I found this interesting quote:

“He should stop talking and start listening to the medical experts,” former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said in an interview with CNN. “What is going on with this man?”

Indeed, what was going on with Trump?  I still don't believe the average American has any idea how many people followed Trump to their deaths.  Not just Democrats --but his own followers.  A lot of people drank the Kool-Aid.  Way more than Jim Jones took out.

March 25, 2021  -- Trump is gone but not forgotten

1st story that came up, even if Trump wasn't in the headline.

"The effort is taking shape as Republicans have introduced more than 250 bills to restrict voting in 43 states and have continued to spread false accusations of fraud and impropriety in the 2020 election. It comes just months after those claims, spread by President Donald J. Trump as he sought to cling to power, fueled a deadly riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6 that showed how deeply his party had come to believe in the myth of a stolen election.

Republicans were unapologetic in their opposition to the measure, with some openly arguing that if Democrats succeeded in making it easier for Americans to vote and in enacting the other changes in the bill, it would most likely place their party permanently in the minority."

Let me edit that for you: Republicans "openly arguing that if Democrats succeeded in making it easier for Americans to vote...it would most likely place their party (Republicans) permanently in the minority."

Democrats Begin Push for Biggest Expansion of Voting Since 1960s

I'm guessing, if you walked out onto the streets where you live and shoved a microphone in the face of John Q. Public, it'd take a dozen or more times before you'd find someone that understood how badly Trump lost the popular vote when he was elected.  (The graphic is from the New York Times too.  It's really worth the money to have a subscription.)

And he wasn't the first.  I think Gore's loss was the most consequential event in my lifetime.  (Two words: Climate Change.  And no, I didn't realize it at the time.  I'm not that smart.  James Fallows is, but not me.)

For me, Donald J. Trump is a clear and present danger.  He may be your George W. Bush.  Or even your Ronald Reagan.  Things look different when you're young.  All I can say is, if you're young, I've been your age before.  As every young person knows, every old person is clueless about what life looks like to you.  I watch the Oscars and the GRAMMYs and I don't know a single person.  (Y'all might even think the Oscars and GRAMMYs are so yesterday.)  I have absolutely no idea what is cool, hip, dope or whatever word describes what is popular now.

But I know this.  Donald J. Trump is the most dangerous threat to America in my lifetime.  Again, if you're young, I've been your age -- but you've never been mine.  Don't vote for this man.  He's the wrong candidate.  I'm here to tell you, even after 44 years, a vote for the wrong candidate still hurts.
