All Traces of Man
It is such a remarkable (and beautiful) system. The trees turn air and water into soil. The park folks (for whatever reason) haven't cleared the leaves off the paved section of the Bankhead Trail and Nature has taken full advantage of it. I see plants creeping into the road everyday. They will trap this year's leaves and create more soil. If we left it all alone, all traces of man would be erased in the blink of an ecological eye.
If you've never read it, I recommend "The Overstory" by Richard Powers. It will change the way you look at trees.
Leaves bury the Bankhead Trail as autumn progresses in Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
